This Day In History: Spacepuppy

November 3, 1957: The Soviet Union sends the first animal into space - a dog named Laika.

The Russians really had no choice, as they recently shot a stick into space, and had no other means of fetching it.

I wonder how you say 'fetch' in Russian. And was there a fire hydrant inside the capsule? Imagine trying to poop and scoop in zero G. The challenges of a cosmomutt.
